References in Luke about resurrection

 

By now you should realize Jesus came to teach and he came to teach about life after bodily death. In Luke there are numerous references to spirits and life after the body has died.

Luke Ch. 7: 11-17 "...a man who had died was being carried out. He was his mother's only son, and she was a widow...".  [Jesus said] "...'Do not weep....Young man, I say to you, rise!' The dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother."

Ch 8: 41-56 "Just then there came a man named Jarius, a leader in the synagogue. He fell at Jesus' feet and begged him to come to his house, for he had only one daughter, about twelve years old, who was dying." ..."While he was speaking, someone came from the leader's house to say, 'Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the teacher any longer.' [Jesus went to the leader's house] "They were all weeping and wailing for her; but he said, 'Do not weep, for she is not dead but sleeping.' And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. But he took her by the hand and called out, 'Child, get up!' Her spirit returned, and she got up at once."

Ch 9:21-22 "He sternly ordered and commanded them not to tell anyone, saying, 'The Son of Man must undergo great suffering, and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, an on the third day be raised.' " This is the 1st notice in Luke of Jesus talking about his death.

Ch 9: 28-36 [The Transfiguration] Please read this section. Jesus is with Peter and John and "Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah, talking to him [Jesus]." I don't know how they knew it was Moses and Elijah. The important fact to note is that about 1,400 years separated Jesus from Moses and about 900 years between Jesus and Elijah. Yet here they were talking with Jesus.

Ch 9:44-45 " 'Let these words sink into your ears: The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into human hands.' But they did not understand this saying, its meaning was concealed from them, so that they could not perceive it. And they were afraid to ask him about this saying." This was the 2nd reminder from Jesus.

Ch 16:19-31 Please read this story by Jesus. It is a story of life after death and life now. The last two verses are Jesus' warning: "He [rich man in hell] said, 'No, father Abraham; but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.' He [father Abraham] said to him [rich man], 'If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.' "

Ch 18:31-34 [Jesus' 3rd mention of his coming death.]  "For he will be handed over to the Gentiles; and he will be mocked and insulted and spat upon. After they have flogged him, they will kill him, and on the third day he will rise again."

Ch 20:36-38 "Indeed they cannot die anymore, because they are like angels and are children of God, being children of the resurrection."  and  "Now he is God not of the dead, but of the living; for to him all of them are alive."

Ch 23:42-43 "Then he [a criminal next to Jesus] said, 'Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.' He [Jesus] replied, 'Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise.' "

Ch 24:5-7 "The women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them 'Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen.' "

Ch 24:31 "Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him; and he vanished from their sight."

Ch 24:36 "While they were talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, 'Peace be with you.' 

Jesus spent the majority of his bodily time on earth teaching about and boldly demonstrating resurrection: of others and himself. Life after death is THE critical issue for Jesus.
