A Teacher of Many Words and Few Words
For a Teacher who taught with brilliant parables and complicated hyperbole, Jesus often spoke as directly as possible:
John 13:34-35 "Love one another."
Matthew 22:29 "You are wrong...in the resurrection they...are like angels in heaven."
Mark 12: 24-27 "...you are wrong...He is not God of the dead, but the living...you are quite wrong."
Luke 23: 42 "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise."
John 4:24 "God is spirit."
John 6:63 "It is the spirit that gives life; the flesh is useless."
And all the "I am" statements mentioned in a separate post:
John 6:35 "I am the bread of life."
John 8:12 "I am the light of the world."
John 10:7-9 "I am the door [or gate]."
John 10:11,14 "I am the good shepherd."
John 11:25 "I am the resurrection and the life."
John 14:6 "I am the way, truth and the Life."
John 15:1 "I am the true vine."
If we find ourselves not yet understanding the brilliant parables, we can go to the more direct statements by Jesus while we study the parables.
