Let us take a detour from thinking about 'resurrection' and consider a passage from "Island of Adventure" by Ross E. Hutchins (1968). Shelley saved this book from being tossed out of her school library and gave it to me. Thank you Shelley.

"Water was the essential part of this primordial witch's brew that gave birth to life and, once started, living things of endless variety emerged from the sea and spread over the barren rocks and eventually clothed the land with green vegetation through which animal life roamed. The droplets of water that fall on The Island this morning could tell an interesting story; some of their molecules may have flowed in the veins of ancient dinosaurs or up through the trunks of tree ferns in Carboniferous forests; they may have been frozen into ice on the polar caps or flowed down jungle streams in tropical Africa.  The water in your morning coffee has been distilled and redistilled a million-million times. Water does not wear out or change; it is one of the most stable of all substances and, without it, life as we know it could not exist. It is the essential ingredient of every living thing from a virus to an elephant."

The insight from "Island of Adventure" compliments the reflection offered by Dr. Anne Rowthorn that I offered in an earlier blog post on March 10, 2026.

While reading this we must consider all we 'do' to water and how important it is. We must be more careful. Some of the pollutants we dump in our water will not go away. The water will be forever polluted. Life as we know it may not be able to exist.

I highly recommend "Island of Adventure". Learning so much about one little island in the Pascagoula River can add to your spiritual understanding of how we should live. In "Island of Adventure", Ross Hutchins offers a naturalist's insight into Creation.

Preparing for Christmas

Christmas Stories and The Son of Man Continuing our concentration on the 4 Gospels as we prepare to celebrate the coming of the Son of Man, let us see what the Gospels have. It is interesting that Mark and John start Jesus' story without any mention of the "traditional" Christmas stories like Matthew and Luke. Most bible scholars consider Mark to be the oldest written Gospel and John the youngest. It is known that in the 3 synoptic Gospels (Mark, Matthew and Luke) some stories of Jesus are shared word for word. It is expected that Matthew and Luke shared information from Mark. In this Advent season it is a good time to read the beginnings of the 4 Gospels and see what the differences mean to you. The differences should not distract from the celebration of joy in the coming of The Son of Man.  In Mark the story begins "...my Son, the Beloved..". (Mark1:11) In John the story begins "...Here is the Lamb of God.." (John 1: 29)
